Sida Position on Natural Resource Tenure

Sunday 12 August
17:15-18:45, Folkets Hus, Room 503-4

Convenor: Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida)

Secure resource tenure for the poor is key to poverty reduction and the realisation of fundamental human rights. The highly diverse history, environments, legal regimes and cultures of different societies demand that approaches to resource tenure are tailored to local circumstances. Coordination between land and water policies is key.
This side-event is organised to present the position paper of Sida on natural resource tenure. The paper demonstrates why natural resource tenure matters for poor people and how improved tenure rights can contribute to poverty alleviation and fulfilment of human rights.
