Dignity, Disease and Dollars: Asia's Urgent Sanitation Challenge
Sunday 12 August
17:15-18:45, Folkets Hus, Room 307
Convenor: Asian Development Bank
Despite knowing that adequate sanitation gives individuals back their dignity, saves children’s lives and prevents pollution of our precious rivers and lands, it fails to gain government priority and investment. Fingers point to the public’s unwillingness to pay for the service, expensive infrastructure requirements and lack of suitable finance as culprits.
ADB is committed to accelerated action to get sanitation services to millions in Asia. In doing so we recognise the need to demonstrate to: (i) government decision makers that sanitation is good economics, (ii) utilities that sanitation services are bankable, and (iii) households, that they can get affordable sanitation. This session will present ADB views on why urgent sanitation action is justified and seek knowledge contributions and partners in accelerating our sanitation actions. |
