Climate Change and the Life Cycle of Disadvantages
Sunday 12 August
17:15-18:45, Folkets Hus, Room 204
Convenors: UNDP Human Development Report Office and Swedish Water House
The human development costs associated with climate change can be enormous, since climate related events – droughts, floods and hurricanes – can drag people into low human development traps. Water often functions as the link between climate, human societies and ecosystems. An increased emphasis on adaptation alongside with mitigation is vital. Understanding the interlinkages between climate change and hydrological patterns is a building block for succeeding in the adaptation measures needed for avoiding human catastrophes.
This seminar will introduce the theme of the Human Development Report 2007, Climate Change and Human Development, and discuss effects of climate change to human development as well as adaptation measures to these threats.
