Event Description In some transboundary basins, the focus is shifting from volumetric allocation to sharing benefits. While there is much international support for the benefit sharing concept, its implementation has been hampered by the lack of structured approaches to identify and evaluate options. The CSIR, SIWI and PRA developed a transboundary basket of benefits (TB3) approach, which was recently advanced through the publication of Transboundary Waters Opportunity (TWO) analysis. This approach is a systematic framework to evaluate development options through stakeholder interaction. The seminar will cover these advances through a mix of methodological overview and case study examples. UNEP and the UNEP-DHI Collaborating Centre on Water and Environment conducted a global assessment of IWRM implementation and ecosystem protection in transboundary river basin organisations. The survey results will be presented and discussed to promote the implementation of IWRM, including the sustainable use and protection of ecosystem services, in a transboundary river basin context. The seminar will be structured such that participants will have the opportunity to contribute significantly, with a view of establishing a broader community of practitioners to advance benefit sharing in transboundary waters.
