Wednesday 20 August
Workshop 7 - Afternoon Workshop
Convenor: Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI)
Co-Convenors: International Water Association (IWA) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)
This Workshop doesn't have any abstracts
The water sector can make signifi cant contributions to mitigating the impacts of climate change whilst also adopt-ing practices that benefit the sector itself. Reducing energy consumption, use of waste for energy, reuse and recycling, innovative fi nancing, all provide win-win opportunities: both mitigating the carbon footprint and achieving more efficient water services and resource management.
What measures can the water sector take to contribute to climate change mitigation?
What technological measures or infrastructure changes can we make in the water sector to reduce energy consumption and make use of waste?
How can we promote practices that both mitigate climate change in the sector and improve efficiency?
Often solutions are known but not applied How can we break from traditional approaches and introduce more effective practices in the water sector?
What water policy measures are needed in mitigating and adapting to climate change?
Policies do not often address waste or wastewater issues or they are neglected due to a lack of a champion within government. This needs to change. What can water professionals do to improve policies?
