Mr. José A. Carrera, CAF

José A. Carrera is the corporate vice-president of Social Development and the Environment at CAF. After joining CAF in 1999 as deputy manager at the Corporate Planning Office, Carrera worked as CAF’s country director and resident representative in Bolivia from 2003 to 2008 and as the assistant director of Country Programs from 2000 to 2003. He has also held positions in the public sector, including deputy minister of finance of Ecuador, during which time he concurrently served as alternate governor of the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, deputy secretary of budget and treasury at the Ministry of Finance of Ecuador, and director of fiscal and financial policy at the Central Bank of Ecuador. Carrera has also served on the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorean Institute of Electricity, PETROECUADOR, the National Council of Securities and Capital Markets, and the Council of National Security of Ecuador. Carrera graduated from the Catholic University of Ecuador with a degree in economics. He also holds an M.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
